Yusuf Celik

Yusuf was born in a small town in Eastern Turkey. In the summers, like most children growing up in a Muslim family, he would go to Islamic school to learn about Islam and the Quran until the age of 14. At the age of 17 Yusuf got the chance to study in Istanbul. At the age of 21, Yusuf got the chance to go to the US where he started his undergrad and lived as an open gay man.

Yusuf holds a Bachelor of Arts degree with double major in Political Science and Middle East Studies from the Portland State University, a Masters in International Relations focused on Conflict Analysis and Conflict Resolution from the Norman Paterson School of International Affairs- Carleton University.

Yusuf volunteered in different countries and he is an active LGBTQ2+ rights activist. He started Gay Muslims United On January 1st ,2018 which helps LGBTQ2+ newcomers to integrate Canadian society by organizing social events.
Yusuf joined Capital Pride in 2018, and looking forward to continue to serve the National Capital Region’s queer community.
